FAQ

DownQ. When is the best time of year to take a tour?

A. With Turkey's mild climate, our tours run year-round with departures every Saturday. Since our trips focus on culture and history rather than beach vacations, the period between November and March is a fantastic option for comfortable weather and great savings. Spring (April–June) and fall (September–November) offer ideal temperatures and fewer crowds, while summer (July–August) is perfect for our coastal trips, like Gulet cruises.

DownQ. Are the tours suitable for solo travelers?

A. Absolutely! Our tours are a great fit for solo travelers. You'll get to experience Turkey's incredible culture and history within a friendly group, so you'll never feel alone.

Important Note: To ensure your privacy and comfort, solo travelers are required to book a single room. We do not pair up travelers to share accommodations.

DownQ. What kind of transportation is used on the tour?

A. We use modern, air-conditioned minibuses or coaches, depending on the size of the group. Some tours also include domestic flights for faster travel. For our Gulet cruises, you'll be on a traditional wooden sailing boat.

DownQ. How much free time will I have for personal exploration?

A. Our tours are designed to help you see and do as much as possible, with daily guided excursions to cover all the key highlights. However, you'll have some free time for personal exploration:

  • Arrival & Departure Days: These days are mainly for airport transfers. Depending on your flight times, you might have some free time to explore on your own.
  • Evenings: After your daily excursions, evenings are typically free for you to relax at your hotel, try a local restaurant, or take a walk around town.
  • Customize Your Trip: If you want more flexibility, you can extend your stay with extra nights before or after the tour. For complete control over your itinerary, we recommend a private, tailor-made tour.

DownQ. What currency should I bring, and are credit cards widely accepted?

A. The local currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). Credit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but it's a good idea to carry some cash for smaller shops, markets, and rural areas. Euros and US Dollars are also commonly accepted in cash.

DownQ. Will I need a visa to enter Turkey?

A. This depends on your nationality. Some travelers can enter without a visa, while others may need an e-Visa. We recommend checking the official Turkish government website for the most up-to-date information.

DownQ. Can I request vegetarian or gluten-free meals?

A. Yes, we can accommodate dietary requirements. Please let us know in advance so we can coordinate with our hotels and restaurants.

DownQ. Are the hotels centrally located?

A. We handpick our hotels for their quality and location, ensuring they are either centrally located or have easy access to major sites.

DownQ. Will I have access to Wi-Fi in the hotels?

A. Yes, most hotels provide free Wi-Fi, though speeds may vary, especially in more remote areas.

DownQ. Can I upgrade my hotel accommodations?

A. On our group tours, all members stay at the same hotel. However, room upgrades may be available for an extra cost, subject to availability. If you prefer a completely customized experience with your choice of premium hotels, we recommend a private, tailor-made tour.

DownQ. What kind of clothing should I pack for different seasons?

A.

  • Spring & Fall: Pack light layers, a jacket, and comfortable walking shoes.
  • Summer: Bring light, breathable clothing, along with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Winter: Warm clothing is a must, especially for inland regions where temperatures can drop significantly.

DownQ. How much walking is involved in the tour?

A. Our tours involve a moderate amount of walking, especially at historic sites like Ephesus and Cappadocia. We highly recommend bringing comfortable shoes.

DownQ. Is there a luggage limit for the tour?

A. We recommend bringing one checked bag and one carry-on per person. For domestic flights, standard luggage limits (typically 44 lbs or 20 kg) apply.

DownQ. Are airport transfers included?

A. Yes! Most of our tours include complimentary airport transfers on the first and last days of your tour.

  • Want to arrive early or stay longer? We can adjust your complimentary transfer to match your new flight dates, provided you book your pre- or post-tour accommodation through us.
  • Staying somewhere else? If you book your hotel independently, you'll need to arrange your own transfers or book them optionally with us.

DownQ. What optional activities are available, and how much do they cost?

A. Information about optional activities, including pricing and details, can be found in the Trip Notes document on each tour's page. This will be sent to you via email approximately 3-4 weeks before your departure.

  • Booking in Istanbul: For activities in Istanbul, we highly recommend booking in advance, as you won't meet your guide until the tour officially begins.
  • Booking with your guide: For all other activities, you can book directly with your guide while on the tour.

DownQ. Can I skip certain activities if I prefer to relax?

A. Yes! You're welcome to opt out of any activities to enjoy some free time. Please let your guide know at least a day in advance.

DownQ. Do I need to book optional activities in advance?

A. While you can book most optional activities with your guide on the trip, we highly recommend booking any Istanbul activities ahead of time. You can add them to your cart when you book your tour or contact us via email to secure your spot.

DownQ. Are there dress codes for visiting religious sites?

A. Yes. When visiting mosques, both men and women should dress modestly. Women should cover their shoulders and knees, and men should avoid wearing shorts above the knee.

DownQ. Is tipping expected in Turkey, and how much should I tip?

A. Tipping is customary but not mandatory. Detailed guidelines can be found in the Trip Notes document you'll receive before your tour.

DownQ. Will we have the opportunity to try local food specialties?

A. Absolutely! Our tours include authentic Turkish meals, and we highly recommend trying local dishes like kebabs, mezes, and baklava.

DownQ. Will there be opportunities to shop for souvenirs?

A. Yes! You'll have plenty of chances to shop for local crafts like carpets, ceramics, and spices at places like Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and Cappadocia’s pottery workshops.

DownQ. Is the tap water safe to drink in Turkey?

A. We recommend drinking bottled water.

DownQ. Do I need travel insurance for the tour?

A. Yes, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage.

DownQ. Are there any vaccinations required or recommended for Turkey?

A. No mandatory vaccinations are required, but routine vaccines (like Hepatitis A, B, and Typhoid) are generally recommended.

DownQ. What should I do in case of a medical emergency during the tour?

A. Your guide will assist you in case of any emergency. Major cities in Turkey have modern hospitals, and your travel insurance can help cover medical expenses.

DownQ. Will I have access to mobile data and SIM cards?

A. Yes, you can purchase a local SIM card (from providers like Turkcell, Vodafone, or Türk Telekom) at the airport or in city stores. eSIMs are also a great option.

DownQ. Will my phone work in Turkey, or should I get a local SIM card?

A. Check with your phone provider about international roaming options. For longer stays, a local SIM or eSIM is a more affordable choice.

DownQ. Will there be charging outlets available on the bus?

A. Some of our buses have charging outlets, but we recommend bringing a power bank to be safe.
